Many of our Rotary Clubs are known by their events and/or service projects. What we do versus who we are. The public is often unaware of us as a membership-based organization. If asked “What’s Rotary?” how effective are we at explaining we’re more than a chicken barbeque, a youth scholarship program or a school’s service club?

Create your elevator speech at our first District Webinar! Our Membership Chair and Public Image Coordinator are teaming up to deliver some practical tips. Read more for the call in details.

It is not too late for any club to apply for a District Grant. The 2014/2015 grant cycle has been reopened specifically in support of food insecurity projects. In order to apply, your club still must have met the criteria for applying for grants for the 2014-2015 Rotary year. For a local grant, the maximum match is $1,500. For an international grant, the maximum match is $4,000 unless there is more than one club involved, in which case the maximum match is $5,000 per club. All a club has to do is to complete the application form and send it in no later than June 4. Details about this opportunity have been sent to all club presidents, or you can contact Jane Millar at 231.838.2347 or jane@northernmediaton.org

It's one of Rotary's most highly regarded programs--so much so, that some employers credit hours invested by Rotarians as formal leadership training! In District 6290 we feel so strongly about the quality and impact of this program that we have budgeted funds that are available as matching scholarship funds -- Clubs send one member and the District will fund a second. All you need to do is notify Kathy Hegedus at the District Office and she'll make it happen for you!

If you have attended Rotary Leadership Institute, PDG Tim Knaggs encourages you to share your experiences with your fellow club members. Encourage new members and emerging leaders to attend. To help us help you tell that story, please send your personal testimonials to tknaggs@charter.net.

Greetings Fellow Rotarians,

What a wonderful and tumultuous times we are in. Spring!! Moving from frozen everything to the symphony of spring – a time when we just start “Feelin’ It!”. Like, “flip-flops floppin’, Raybans rayin’ and igloos fillin’ up”. You know what I’m sayin’? I love it, don’t you?

Spring is also the time of change – time to get done all those things that need to get done in time for Rotary’s annual changing of the guard.  Many of us have spent the last several months getting ready for this time. There is a nice feeling of satisfaction from having prepared those who will lead next year. I love that too.

The other effect spring has on me is make me want to ask, “How did we do?”  Did we win more than we lost? Is the organization a bit better, stronger, more vibrant then it was a year ago when we started this gig? Maybe you get to asking yourself the same questions.  Let’s have a look at how the District did to fulfill their mission of serving YOU!
