A Note from Jamina Chervenak, Muskegon High School

Building houses in El Salvador are 31 Rotary Interactors and 16 adults. The San Salvador Noroeste Rotary Club is amazing with their help and hospitality. Each home costs approximately $4,000 in materials. Our District Interact and Rotary clubs raised enough funds for building six houses.

Today was a very long but fun day. First we started off by waking up at 7 am for breakfast then we left around 7:45 to go finish putting the plackas down on some of the houses, my house has two more walls to finish and we will be finished and ready to put mortar on the walls. Then we left around 11:45 to go back to the hotel and get cleaned up for some after hard work fun:

  • Went on a hike to go see an old volcano, -- a good hike with beautiful scenery.
  • Looked at some shops and bought some souvenirs for friends and families as well as ourselves.
  • Went to a Rotarian's house for some nice dinner and desserts, then conversation, laughter, and dancing with our new friends.
This trip has been a really good experience for me as i have never been on a trip like this before. Coming here and meeting all kinds of new people and gaining a new perspective has made me feel really grateful that i did come on this trip. I hope other kids will come on future trips. I would definitely do this trip over and over. Be sure to watch our video slide show below.
