Spring is here!
Happy Spring, Rotarians!  Despite the weather forecast for the first week of April in our District, the calendar tells us it is spring.  This month we joined the spirit of annual renewal and rebirth by training our Presidents-Elect and Presidents-Nominee for their new offices.  New relationships, new ideas, new growth abound as we get ready to transition to new Rotary Club leadership.  Congratulations to DGE Brian Robertson, DGN Dave Thomas, and District Trainer Tom Schmidt on a job well done.
March has been Water and Sanitation Month on Rotary’s calendar.  April is Maternal and Child Health Month, reminders of new birth and growth and our obligations as Rotarians to play a part in making the world a better place looking forward.
Keep reading for updates on tremendous news taking place around our District, and for a special invitation to the District Conference.

Last month a team of Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors under the guidance of Gail Ringelberg and Bari Johnson installed water filters and latrines in Honduras.  This week Rotary Interactors from all over our District are taking their message of service to El Salvador, led by Doug Mealey, to build homes and provide improved living conditions for people there.

The Sault Ste Marie Rotary Club with help from Rotaractors and Interactors raised over $100,000 in the Easter Seals Telethon!

And who wants to jump out of an airplane to raise funds for Polio eradication?  Check out the District Website or contact Elk Rapids Rotarian Don Watkins for more information

It is incredible what we can do together!  And we can have a lot of fun doing it together!

Join Leaders, Exchange Ideas, Take Action

The tulips have begun to poke their heads out of the dirt in the gardens around Holland and all over downtown.  I think they are getting ready for our District Conference which happens just after the Holland community’s annual celebration of the flowers with parades, music, and lots of fun.  We want to continue that fun while we celebrate District 6290 Rotary efforts to make the world a better place looking forward. We are Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and Rotary Youth Exchange Students Making a Difference.  In addition to our incredible plenary speakers, we will have a dozen different breakout sessions showing how We are People of Action!  And we’ll have time to join together, enjoy each other, form new relationships, renew old ones, and exchange ideas.  Register now!
For the first time the District is offering the gift to our youth of being equal participants in this conference.  Ed Futa, Past General Secretary of RI and current Head of Rotary’s United Nations Delegation, is looking forward to meeting with our youth and giving them an awareness to bring back to your Club members who cannot attend. Rotarians, check with your Rotaractors, Interactors, and inbound, outbound, and rebound exchange students.  See who needs transportation to Holland.

We begin the conference Thursday evening with the Rotary Foundation Gala.

I challenge each club to be represented, and I want to acknowledge and celebrate your presence.
