I am honored to serve as District Governor of District 6290 for the 2026–2027 Rotary year.

We embark on a new year inspired by Rotary International President Olayinka (Yinka) Babalola's presidential message: Create Lasting Impact. This message reminds us that Rotary is not measured simply by the projects we complete, but by the enduring difference that we make in people's lives. Every new member we welcome, every youth we mentor, every partnership we build, and every service project has the power to create an impact that extends far beyond today.

To expand connections between clubs, the district has a number of initiatives planned. We are relaunching a District Newsletter which will be published six times a year. Please share with us stories about your service projects and promotions regarding upcoming fundraisers. We are organizing 12 regional multi-club mixers to increase networking and the sharing of ideas between clubs. In addition, we have planned a number of social opportunities including two fall sunset cruises in Muskegon and Petoskey. More details can be found in this newsletter. I look forward to connecting you at one of these events!

I am especially happy to share that we will be having a Joint District Conference with D6360 (Southwest Michigan) at Crystal Mt. on April 16-18, 2027. We have an amazing line-up of speakers including Rotary International President Elect Larry Lunsford, RI Director Tom Gump, Past Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet, and our Global Scholar Dr. Ariel Dempsey. This is a rare opportunity to hear from Rotary International leaders and inspiring speakers close to home. Save the date! More details to come.

Together, let us seize the opportunity to Create Lasting Impact in our communities and the lives of those we serve.

Yours in fellowship and service,

Julie Schumaker
