At first, Dorothy Ingram wasn't even going to answer the phone.
“I thought, 'Why is the Rotary Club calling me?' Then I thought, 'Well, I’m going to answer it and see what’s going on.' ”
She's glad she did.
Dorothy started the new year with a big cheque. She chose the cash prize option when her name was drawn as the winner of the Rotary Take Your Pick Draw on Dec. 27. Dorothy, accompanied by her sister Leona Mortimor, was the honoured guest at Tuesday's Rotary lunch where she was presented with her $85,000 prize.
Dorothy purchased her ticket from David St. Jean, a volunteer ticket seller, at Food Basics on Pine Street. After purchasing the ticket, David wished her good luck and she responded she hoped so. “I hung it on my fridge and didn’t think more about it.”
Donna Carricato, President of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, drew Dorothy Ingram’s name and made the exciting phone call to let her know. “It was unbelievable, I couldn’t believe it,” shared Dorothy immediately after the emotional call. This was the club’s most successful winter draw, with more than 14,500 tickets sold.
“We thank all the citizens of the Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma region for their support,” said draw co-chair and Rotarian, Paul Walz. “We are excited to have Dorothy as our winner, and to be able to use these draw proceeds to support local causes.”
The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has fostered service, leadership, and good works in our community since 1918.
