Help Haiti Hydrate

Haiti is Not a Lost Cause

For most of us, much of what we read and see about Haiti are images on TV of gang violence. It is often easy to think Haiti is a lost cause.

But Haiti throbs with creativity. Every major road is lined with paintings, pottery, metal art, baskets and more.

History is everywhere: remnants of colonial style buildings, adorned inside with marble staircases and statues.

Terre-Neuve
Water Project
Numerous challenges impact Terre-Neuve, most notably in Lagon, the third communal section. Only one source of water exists, not nearly sufficient to supply Lagon. Poor hygiene and increased risk of illness are the result. Moreover, agriculture is diminished due to lack of water. Both animals and crops struggle to survive in Lagon, therefore local farmers struggle to feed their families.

Rotarians in Haiti and in Michigan/Ontario work together as part of the HANWASH Initiative, targeting Lagon, the first community to be served in Terre-Neuve.

Providing a community-led safe water source for Lagon will transform lives. One well can support 250 men, women, and children, creating healthy living, education, and long-term prosperity.

Placing the community in charge of its own water sources and sanitation sites encourages self-reliance and accountability.
