Muskegon High School, Muskegon Rotary Club

 

 

The Rotary Life Leadership Conference was a life changing, one of a kind experience. I wasn’t completely sure what I was getting into, but I wanted to become more involved in Rotary and felt like this could help me do that. The overall meeting was very organized, and the staff were all so friendly and helpful. I never felt scared to ask a question. All the speakers had something valuable to add during the conference, and they all spoke in a way that captured our attention. It was the most organized event I’ve ever attended, and for the most part, we always stuck to the schedule, so we always knew what we were doing.

 

The message that spoke to me the most was Molly Kennedy’s ‘Flip your 20’. She spoke about flipping our perspective, and turning a bad belief about ourselves into a good belief. It also included an activity where we could actually try it for ourselves, and it was really eye opening. Since I’ve been to the conference, I’ve actually been implementing this in my everyday life. It’s so helpful for when I’m feeling down, and it’s something that will definitely continue to help me in the future.

 

 As the newly elected Treasurer of the Muskegon High School Rotary Interact Club, I’m going to use everything I learned to help make my club the best it can be. At LLC I learned how to be a leader, and want to use all that to be a person that others can look up to when they need something. In the future, I want to start more local community activities. With my new leadership skills, I’ll be able to rally people together to help make my community better.

 

 Although I think LLC was a great event, there are some things I would suggest to improve.  I think there should’ve been more outdoor activities, like walks and runs in groups. We played capture the flag on the last day, but I think we should have had more of those types of activities on the other days. Also, it would have helped to have a more clear idea of what we were going to be doing at the conference. A lot of us went in blind, not exactly sure of what we were going to be doing. I think it may also be helpful to show pictures of the dorms beforehand, so the conferees know what to expect when they get there. Overall, LLC was an amazing experience. If you are questioning whether to come or not, do it, you won’t regret it. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
